Having worked with a few people in the industry this year as well as featuring on Z.Dot’s Gangster EP, the mulit-talented Romo from Birmingham has ben making a good name for himself on the scene this year. We sent Cheyenne to speak to the man himself to get a bit more info about him just before his next EP Scarecrows and Skeletons release on November 5th.
Who is Romo and what does he do?
Romo is a Music Artist, Producer and Actor from the U.K who eats, sleeps and breathes the performing arts world.
How long have you been involved in music?
I took an interest in music from about 8 years old. From that age to about 18 it was mild but decided to take it heavily on board in 2009.
How would you describe your own sound?
I would describe my own sound as something slightly away from the norm. Good or bad I’m not too sure yet but I can’t help but make what seems to float around in my head.
Do you experiment in other roles in music other than being an artist?
In terms of experimenting in other departments of being an artist, as I mentioned earlier I also produce and sometimes even engineer recording sessions or even mix vocals.
Who have you produced music for?
Initially I’ve only ever really worked with myself or close artists locally in terms of producing but recently I’ve decided to take more of a forward role and reach out. I’ve currently worked with Nolay on her EP “He said She said I AM BAD, producing “4321 (Do It)” and “Bad Girl“. I’ve also worked on an official remix for Kele Le Roc‘s “S.Y.D”
You’ve done a lot of work with quite a few artists, who would you like to work with (if you could) next?
Hmm, good question. I’m trying to be as open as possible so I’d openly work with anyone who has a real determination and drive in music where the passion is evident through their musical expression, BUT, to answer the question I would like to work with Etta Bond. There’s loads more but she’s probably the most recent I’ve discovered.
Can we expect any solo material from you anytime soon?
Solo material…to be honest, YES! If I can have it my way there will be some form of download whether 2 tracks or 6 that will be of my solo artistc work, vocally.
You released your own EP Number X earlier this year and now you’re back with a Grime Instrumental EP Scarecrows and Skeletons. What can we expect from it?
The EP Scarecrows and Skeletons is a spin off of Nemesis’ Angels and Aliens (Nemesis from Krypto Klan, my team). Mine’s a more grimer instrumental EP with somewhat of a ghoulish sound. 5 Free instrumentals for an MC’s menu!
